New Research Fellow in Health Service Implementation to boost research impact

Dr Clare Thomas has been appointed Research Fellow in Health Service Implementation at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) CLAHRC West. This is a joint post with the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) in Evaluation of Interventions at the University of Bristol.

In this role Clare will be working with the research teams at the CLAHRC and the HPRU and to support research implementation and knowledge mobilisation activities.

The aim of the role is to promote the adoption of research evidence into policy and practice so that research findings have the greatest possible impact on the health and well-being of patients and the public.

Clare is a chartered psychologist specialising in health and behaviour change and has many years’ experience conducting applied health research.

She said:

“I am excited to have the opportunity to work with the talented researchers at both the HPRU and NIHR CLAHRC West to help translate research evidence into policy and practice.

“Bridging the gap between academics on the one hand, and clinicians, patients and policy makers on the other is a long-standing challenge. There is great work already under way in both teams, who have fantastic links with local health and social care partners. My aim is to build on this in my new role.”
