Unplanned hospital admissions talk at HSRUK symposium

John Busby will be presenting a talk called ‘Exploring the causes of unplanned admissions’ as part of the commissioning strand at the Health Services Research UK (HSRUK) symposium on 13-14 July.

In this talk John presents data on geographic variations in potentially preventable unplanned admissions, and explores how this might be used to set commissioning and research priorities. He investigates the causes of this variation and how this, alongside other evidence, can be used to better manage provider performance and design admission avoidance schemes. Finally, John explores how benchmarking can be used to improve healthcare locally and highlights some potential pitfalls of this analysis.
